Partner with Pathways and offer one of our students a summer internship

Launched in the summer of 2005, we developed paid summer internships with the support of RBC Financial Group, TD Canada Trust, Stikeman Elliott LLP, the Ministry of the Environment, and the CAW. Since then, it’s been a win-win situation for everyone involved. Pathways students have thrived in their placements, gaining valuable work experience and exposure to a variety of career fields. Their supervisors and mentors have been impressed with the skills and attitudes Pathways youth have brought to their workplace.

Currently, only students from the Regent Park Pathways program
qualify for summer internships.

How can your business get involved?

We’re looking for internship opportunities in a variety of sectors so we can offer choice and value both to our students and to the interested companies.

Your company will offer:

  • Paid summer internship beginning as early as mid June 2009;
  • Valuable work experience for Pathways youth, including industry exposure and opportunity for growth.

Pathways will offer:

  • Student support and preparation through recruitment support, registration, presentations, training workshops, site visits, resume writing and interview scheduling;
  • Regular contact with the internship supervisor and the student through our Specialty Mentor who will be acting as a liaison throughout the summer.

What sort of internship placements is Pathways looking for?

Pathways is looking for paid work experience for our students during the summer. Students finishing grade 12 are available after the third week of June.

How are students selected?

This can vary. Some organizations already have a summer internship program in place and we would like to be included in that application process. Others give us a job description and have us pre-select students for an interview with the position’s supervisor for the final selection.

What support is needed once the student starts?

The student is assigned a supervisor and has a performance evaluation as in any work position. A staff person from Pathways will keep in touch with you and the student and be available for any challenges that may arise.
