Pathways to Education is a national, charitable organization breaking the cycle of poverty through education. Its award-winning program is creating positive social change by supporting youth living in low-income communities to overcome barriers to education, graduate from high school, and build the foundation for a successful future. Through the collective power of partnerships, Pathways to Education’s innovative program is preparing youth for tomorrow.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As the Director, Finance, you will lead a high-performing team responsible for all financial operations, including financial planning, reporting, forecasting, and compliance requirements. Both detail-oriented and highly adaptable to change, you will establish best-in-class procedures to achieve efficiency and innovation.

As the successful candidate, you are an enthusiastic and hands-on team player, and will support our results-driven and positive work culture by continuously improving processes and the professional development of your team. In collaboration with colleagues throughout the organization, you’ll provide critical analyses and insights to ensure effective financial stewardship, furthering program sustainability and attaining strategic results in support of young people across Canada.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Manage cash flow, ensuring sufficient funds are available to meet operating needs.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting on all financial activities of the organization, including quarterly and annual financial statements, and financial analyses and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and maximize the overall value delivered to the communities we serve.
  • Oversee full-cycle budgeting, forecasting, planning, and analysis.
  • Support our fundraising efforts by providing financial information for donor stewardship, grant proposals, and program evaluation; work with the Chief Development Officer and Chief Operating Officer to maximize available funding.
  • Collaborate with the Programs team and Pathways community partners nationwide to determine community program budgets, analyze financial results, and manage financial policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with executive leaders to design financial strategies and solutions that support Pathways’ strategic direction.
  • Lead the year-end audit process, managing relationships with external auditors.
  • Lead the Finance team in delivering high-quality financial services internally, providing expertise, insights, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to the Finance team to advance financial practices, supporting objective-setting, performance success, and individual development.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for innovation and improvement to finance processes and practices; provide oversight to Finance-led initiatives.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • University degree and professional accounting designation (CPA-CA, CGA, CMA).
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in financial reporting and analysis, with excellent technical accounting knowledge (not-for-profit expertise is an asset).
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting/ERP systems and reporting tools (experience with Great Plains is an asset), and advanced proficiency in Excel and other related MS Office 365 products.
  • Progressive leadership experience in a management role with a demonstrated ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Superior problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and a proven ability to execute complex project plans and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to explain complex financial concepts to a variety of stakeholders.
  • High level of initiative and adaptability to change; seeks continual process improvements and efficiencies.
  • Enthusiastic, positive, and solutions-focused mindset.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) would be a great asset.

WHAT WE OFFER
